However, if you’re using a desktop PC with an external display–or even connecting an external display to a laptop or tablet–you’ll need to adjust this setting on the external display itself, and you usually won’t be able to do it automatically. Most of the methods in this article are designed for laptops, tablets, and all-in-one PCs. I don't know if any of you understand as English is not my first language but I hope someone will find it useful and this solution will work for others too. You’ll find this option in the Settings app on Windows 10, too. So not only I have now beautiful crisp image but also do not have those awful brightness changes that were really distracting and straining my eyes.īefore I found the solution I did reset monitor settings to factory settings and chose CUSTOM mode in my PICTURE MODE, and went through each single option and I stumbled upon an option called DFC which its description was apparently AUTOMATIC BRIGHTNESS ADJUSTMENT, I guess it must have been Enabled automatically when I enabled HDR in Win11 and it was greyed out without an option to turn it off. So I choose one of the modes (NOT HDR EFFECT) and me having nvidia graphic card, I can do colour, brightness, gamma etc. and there is one called HDR EFFECT, and it seems that when I enabled HDR in Win 11, the monitor had automatically switched to this option for me, so I changed it to other modes, and it seems this did the trick for me I have finally stopped having this awful brightness change each time I was switching from dark to bright, I had the same issues before in games, some of the scenes instead of looking bright and nice, were dark and the opposite scenes that should be dark were bright, and the adjustment was so painfully visible that I began to think I may have seizure as it was changing in "pulsating" manner. I have LG monitor, my monitor has a section that is called Picture Mode, it has different pre-programmed modes, those modes have pre-programmed brigthness, contrast, colour and other settings, some of the modes are Vivid, Standard, Cinema, etc. I know it may be quite late but to suggest something, I had exactly the same problem recently when I installed Windows 11, before that I did not even know my monitor was capable of HDR, so when I turned on HDR in Win 11, somehow it changed my monitor settings without my permission. I have a theory it's the "black stabilizer" setting in my LG monitor, but the monitor won't allow it to be adjusted in ANY settings. I've switch from "gamer 1" to "standard" and it seems to happen a tad less, but it still happens.ģ) Adjusted power settings to full power, from balanced. So far what researching has told me to do that I've tried -ġ) Turning off auto - brightness in "display" options on Windows (there was no option for me)Ģ) Trying different settings on my monitor. It's really annoying, but I really love how much better the colors look in HDR and don't want to not use it. When I turn on HDR my monitor frequently does a seemingly random, subtle, but noticable, brightness adjustment. I'm having an issue with my LG - 27GL850-B monitor.
